Booger In The News

Mentioned on Good Day Sacramento, Channel 13 & 31!
Good Day Sacramento made a trip to the Prairie City off-road track to support and promote the races THIS WEEKEND. The Green Booger was mentioned for last year's teeth and tongue costume. Check it out! http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/video/6379824-off-road-racing/.

After a simple photo upload for photo sharing to the local news station Monday afternoon, kcra.com, Sacramento's NBC channel, we were pleased to find the next morning the station decided to use the Green Booger front page on their website in the news reel! This particular photo was taken at the 2010 VORRA Halloween BBQ race, and trick-or-treaters had to reach inside the Booger's "mouth" to take their candy from a green bowl.

Green Booger - Superstar!
The VORRA Yerington 300 is propelled to Supertstar Status, and not in the Molly Shannon way, with the excellent video from Curtis at Race-Dezert.com. With great coverage of all classes of vehicles found at the race, we are so pleased that the Green Booger was featured multiple times. With depiction of the ethereal snowy white desert contrasted by race cars blasting through the tan sand, RDC releases another amazing video - thank you Curtis and RDC!

Booger in Reno Off-Road Video
At about eight minutes into the video, the Green Booger was featured in the Reno Off-Road 2011 VORRA Yerington 300 video, though we definitely recommend watching all the great video they put together. Thank you, Reno Off-Road!

Prairie City IV Halloween BBQ, CA, 2010
Featured Volume 28 Number 2, February 2011 of the Dusty Times for its first place in VORRA's Prairie City IV Halloween BBQ short course race, the Green Booger makes the magazine again in both write-up and photogenic representation. A few incorrect facts were found in this article, as Messer (1177) did not experience transmission damage during his rollover and 1112 did not have higher compression; it was actually lower than our last race at 11.8. In moto 2 Messer wasn't out of the race due to being off-course but actually because of a broken distributor rotor. The Green Booger had to take it easy due to a broken beam.

"With all three Class 11's running higher compression this race it was 3-wide into turn 1 as nobody wanted to give an inch. Bob Messer (1177) didn't make the horseshoe turn though as he rolled and damaged the transmission. Richard Palasik (1107) and Gary Herrod (1112) went door to door all the way to the checkers with Palasik taking the moto win."
"In moto 2 Messer was quickly out front with Palasik and Herrod giving chase. At mid-race Messer was off course and out of the moto. Palasik was in the lead and doing well until he too rolled all by himself...in a straight-away. Palasik crew to official, "Hey we're out in front," offical's reply, "You just rolled." This moved Herrod into the lead and the moto win."
"In moto 3 Messer was out front again with Palasik and Herrod giving chase. Herrod and Palasik had a battle all the way to the last lap when Herrod stuffed Palasik into a course marking tire giving him the 2nd spot. Overall results: Herrod, Palasik, and Messer."

Prairie City III, CA, 2010
Featured Volume 27 Number 12, December 2010 of the Dusty Times for its first place in VORRA's Prairie City III short course race, the Green Booger makes the magazine again in both write-up and photogenic representation.

"In Class 11 Gary Herrod (1112) went for the three-moto sweep. Richard Palasik's (1107) white bug is pretty much had a tough season and now the door wouldn't stay shut in moto 1. I hear a new body is in order for the off-season with the old one being bronzed or something in his wife's garden."

Hawthorne 225, NV, 2010
Featured Volume 27 Number 11, November 2010 of the Dusty Times for its first place in VORRA's September Hawthorne 225 Race, NV race, the Green Booger makes the magazine again in the article. #1107 actually did finish all three laps of the race, though the Booger made it in nearly an hour before #1107. Bob Messer and #1177 did make the Hawthorne race but threw a rod in the prerun and opted to crew for #1112 and #1107.
"In Class 11 Gary Herrod (1112) was the winner after he completed all three laps where his competition Richard Palasik (1107) was taking dirt samples with the roof as he rolled half way through the lap. Palasik parked the car after the first lap."

Fallon 250, NV, 2010
Featured Volume 27 Number 10, October 2010 of the Dusty Times for its first place in VORRA's July Fallon 250 Night Race, NV race, the Green Booger makes the magazine again in both write-up and photogenic representation. A special thank you to Troy Robinson and the Dusty Times for another great article on VORRA's race, as well as a wonderful portrayal of the Class 11's and their antics! With the accounts from the VORRA forum included, what a great read!

"...The class 11 victory went to Gary Herrod (1112, the green one). Herrod and co-driver got stuck in the silt once and learned that they can lift the front and rear ends out of the silt onto a more firm part of the track. Herrod even managed to stay in front of a 'certain racing truck' during the rough section for quite a ways due to the thick dust until the truck was able to get the top speed up and make a clean desert pass (I'm not mentioning any numbers here). At the finish Herrod had a 52 minute victory over 2nd place.
Bob Messer (1177, the silver one) was running 3rd place most of the day with some long first laps. He gathered it up in the end and finished 2nd place. At one point they pulled over for a car and later found out it was a pass for position but got the place back a few miles later.
Richard Palasik (1107, the white one) had some misfortunte during the pre-running. The ball joint broke on the car and while this is normally not a big deal for the 11's it wasn't without drama. During the repairs a pry bar slipped smashing Richard's hand sending him to the hospital for stitches, antibiotics, and a thumb splint but not before they fixed the car to drive it out of the desert. During a test run they determine that he can't drive without opposable thumbs so a relief driver was put in. The race starts and they take a quart of oil a lap (normal for an air cooled isn't it) and later make a pass on the above Messer, only to pull over a few miles later to add oil - they didn't realize it was for position and they were on the same lap. Oh yeah, one other note on their way to third place, the steering wheel came off just before check point one at top speed (45mph), doesn't that only happen in cartoons?...."

Booger in Bower Media
The Green Booger was once again featured (twice) in the Bower Media race recap video on YouTube, complete with the Two Larrys thumbs up. Check it out!

Xtreme Outlaws 350, NV, 2010
Featured Volume 27 Number 9, September 2010 of the Dusty Times for its second place in VORRA's June Xtreme Outlaw 250, NV race, the Green Booger makes the paper again. Not included in the article is how #1112 broke a beam and a shock tower and the top of the shock was hammering through the fender and body to create perfect little bullet holes. Also not included in the article was that #1107 made it checkpoint one while #1112 decided to quit while in the pits (36 minutes ahead of #1107), thus securing the Xtreme Outlaw win. This was not accurately portrayed in the article.

"...Class 11 also had a tough time with the hill climb and ensuing bottleneck. Making it through and calling it quits after one lap was Gary Herrod (1112) for the class win. Richard Palasik (1107) also made one lap and called it a day after they couldn't continue. Jerry Ornellas (1106) never made it off the bottleneck hill as they were trying to get up the hill, placing rocks here and there, the car got away from them as first gear couldn't hold the car on the hill. They rolled down the hill about 150 yards and off a cliff into a tree. The car was extricated the next day..."

Yerington 300, NV, 2010
Featured Volume 27 Number 8, August 2010 of the Dusty Times for its second place in VORRA's May Yerinton 300, NV race, the Green Booger makes the paper again despite a handful of mishaps that required some creative problem-solving by the Larrys.

VORRA Fallon 250, 2010
Featured in the Bower Media race recap video, the Green Booger makes more than one appearance. Bower Media and VORRA have always made the effort to include Class 11s in their media releases, which is very appreciated.

Prairie City Season Opener, 2010
Featured Volume 27 Number 6, June 2010 of the Dusty Times for its second place in VORRA's April Prairie City races, the Green Booger again proves to be a photogenic favorite and once again quite the memorable car.

"...On the line next was the VORRA Bug Invasion I. With just 4 Class 11s it was still a great show for the fans as the stock beetles tore up the track. Bob Messer (1177) was out front in Moto 1 Richard Palasik (1107) running a close second followed by Gary Herrod (1112) and Jerry Ornellas (1107). Palasik pulled off the track with a broken fan belt. Messer went on for the moto win followed by Herrod and Ornellas. Moto 2 Messer out front again with Herrod in second keeping him honest, one mistake and it was Herrod's race. Moto 3 and Palasik in third took home and the longest bicycle ride of the weekend and managed to bring it down on all 4's. Messer had the lead until Herrod passed him in a drag race up the front straight to take the lead and the moto win. Overall win went to Messer with Herrod second and Ornellas third..."

"...Running with the class 9's was the start of the "VORRA Bug Invasion" of class 11's. While only two made the trip to this race there promises to be more soon. After rolling in practice Richard Palasik (1107) pounded out the roof and split the moto wins with Gary Herrod (1112) as the two of them mixed it up with fellow "swingers" from class 9. Herrod would win motos 1 and 3 for the overall win. Palasik blew the transmission on lap 3 of moto 3..."

Prairie City Round 2, Bug Invasion
"...Class 11's Bug Invasion brought four 'Herbie' cars to the start line, and the crowd to their feet. Everyone was cheering for their favorite color as all four of them cut it up around the track. No, they did not attempt the double jump, but most did get big air off the finish line jump. Bob Messer took first for the day after seeing the checker flag 2 out of 3 motos with Gary Herrod settling for second..."
